About me

I began working for the Wikimedia Foundation in July 2015. I'm a computational linguist, and I like to do tricky things with text and mash numbers and words together in ways not intended by nature. If you ask me how many languages I speak, I may reply π. I Unicode.

I worked on search engines before search engines were cool. When I have to work on _GitHub,_ /‍/Phab,/‍/ and ''MediaWiki'' all on the same day, I sometimes suffer Severe Markup Incongruence Fatigue.

Don't tell anybody, but Wiktionary is my favorite wiki.

My work

I'm part of the Search Platform team, and I spend my time working on search & relevance, trying to better support search in various languages, analyzing queries, and doing random mathy things. I tend to write long, detailed notes about my investigations (so as to improve the bus number of my work). I also try to share some of the interesting things I find with a wider, non-technical audience in posts to the Wikimedia blog (old old new new blog / new blog / old blog).

Disclaimer: I work for or provide services to the Wikimedia Foundation, and this is the account I try to use for edits or statements I make in that role. However, the Foundation does not vet all my activity, so edits, statements, or other contributions made by this account may not reflect the views of the Foundation.
